Biblical Response to Transgender Ideology

Biblical Response to Transgender Ideology

Increasingly, transgender ideology is being pushed to the mainstream sector of society. There are even so-called Christians who are attempting to present transgender ideology as a thought pattern in line with the Christian faith. Therefore, every believer needs to have his quiver filled with Biblical arrows to respond and defend against this ideology.

The Bible is a holistic book, and as such all present-day issues must be evaluated in light of the “Spirit of the Bible”. The Bible has its own perspective and views. We can clearly recognize that the Biblical perspective has no place for transgender ideology since throughout the Bible, the clear identification of male and female with different functions and roles are repeatedly mentioned as an accepted norm. Take for instance the woman’s place as child bearer, even as Adam named Eve because she was “the mother of all living”. Or for instance, it is the man that leaves his father and mother and cleaves to his wife. Furthermore, Jesus was born of a woman, and he came in the form of a man. Obviously, the Bible has clear differentiation between the sexes. Understanding this is the best way to enter into using the scriptures to address this problem.

In this article, you will first see the transgender ideology, and then a scriptural response if presented along with scriptures, and points. Use these as arrows to shine the light of God unto the transgender lies.

Transgender Ideology Lie: Gender is different from sex. Some people don’t feel like they fit in the category of man or woman.

Biblical Response:

  • Our sex is a reality that does not depend on feelings.

  • Gender in its meaning of being an inner feeling of one’s identity is not based on Biblical or natural truth.

  • First, it is possible for a person to deceive themselves.

Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

The heart is deceitful and very wicked. We cannot fully fathom the depths of the deceitful motives of the heart. So an inner feeling may not reflect truth or reality but rather is being driven by ungodly desires. Simply put, an inner feeling that denies the reality of one’s biological sex is a deceptive feeling.

  • Evil springs from within and corrupts a person

    • Mark 7:21 - 23 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: 23All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

    • Since evil springs from within human beings, an inner feeling of one’s gender, that denies the reality of one’s biological sex, is a manifestation of rebellion against God’s creation.

  • The hearts of men have been darkened, and our imagination or thoughts produce evil things.

  • Sexual identities are given by God. God declared male and female. God saw the need for a helpmate and made a woman (Genesis 1:27)

  • Changing the nature of realities and truth is a common action of sinful men whose heart has been darkened.

    • Romans 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

  • The Biblical attitude is to honor God for how you were naturally created.

    • Psalm 139:11 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

  • The Biblical call is to glorify God with your body

    • 1 Cor. 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

  • God formed your natural body. Don’t Deny God’s formation.

    • Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

    • Psalm 139:15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

    • As the above scriptures show, your body was formed and framed by God. The male and female anatomy was formed by God. We ought not to deny God’s formation and reject the biological sex we were born with.

Transgender Lie: When the Bible says male and female, it was not meant to be binary, but meant to be on a spectrum.

Biblical Response:

The Bible continuously shows differences between men and women, male and female. The idea of a spectrum of male and female does not exist in Biblical phraseology.

For example:

The woman identified as the “weaker vessel” (1 Peter 3:7)

The creation story emphasizes the difference; The man was formed first. Then, Adam was put to sleep and the woman was created. A related but different identity is given to the woman.

Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Genesis 2:21-23 21And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.23And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

The Bible emphasizes natural differences and functions.

Romans 1:26-27 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another.

The natural use is obviously reproductive use. The male and female anatomy makes reproductive sexual activity possible. However, denying one’s biological sex is a denial of the natural function of the body that is given to each sex.

1 Corinthians 11:14-15 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? 15But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.

As seen in the above scripture, the Bible generally accepts the reality of the things in nature.

Numerous Instructions Given to Women, Separate from Men

Treatment of Men Versus Women: 1 Tim. 5:1 Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren; 2The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.

Women Deaconnesses Titus 2:1-5, are given their own set of directions separately from the men.

The role of women in worship services is separately addressed with some specific instructions from women: 1 Cor. 11; 1 Tim. 2:11

Dressing instructions: are specifically given to women 1 Tim. 2:9-10

Differences in Judgment Given to Men and Women

Genesis 3:16-17 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.17And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

The difference in the creation story and judgment is one of sexual reproduction. The woman bears children (1 Tim. 2:15)., so only she can be judged with pain in childbirth. Reproduction is in the view of creation, the joining of the man and woman causes reproduction. For men to be fruitful and multiply, God made males and females so there can be reproduction.

Transgender Ideology Lie: There are no verses in the Bible that is against trans-identity.

Avoid this trap by noting that the Bible does not have to specifically mention a thing for it not to be a sin because the sin is already clear from greeting truths.

However, the Bible deals with identifying things and people wrongly.

First, reframing or perverting truth is a sin

Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

It is called lying.

John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

It is called being a false witness.

Proverbs 14:5 He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit.

It calls others to join the lie. This is deceiving others.

Roman 1:32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

When a person says they are what they are not, then telling others to accept their perversion of reality is known as deception in the scriptures. Now many that are trapped in transgender ideology are self-deceived and may not even see their own error. Therefore, let us not use these points and scriptures to quarrel bu to patiently teach so others can be free from this deceptive ideology.

2 Timothy 2:24-26 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, 25In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; 26And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
