Matthew 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

God’s desire is for every believer to grow to maturity in the faith. The plan is not for believers to remain babies in the kingdom when it comes to our spiritual growth and understanding of the kingdom of God. To grow, God has provided spiritual nourishment for us to grow in maturity. Believers must hunger and thirst after God to eat and drink of the spiritual food He is given us for our growth and sustenance. God has given us everything that we need for life and godliness. Too many believers remain immature and fail to receive all the nourishment that God has for our spiritual development.

Consequently, many do not take up the mandate of the kingdom, the call on their life, and fulfill the purpose God has for them in the church and the world. In this teaching is a presentation of the food and drink God has given us for spiritual nourishment. The water of life, the bread of fellowship, milk of the word, the meat of application, and the roll of prophecy. Receive it, eat, drink, and grow.

Water

Represents eternal life

Isaiah 55:1 Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

John 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

Represents the Holy Spirit

John 7:37-39 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

Our Spiritual meal begins with drinking water, drinking the waters of eternal life. Water represents the Holy Spirit, who gives eternal life.  Upon receiving Christ, the Holy Spirit comes and regenerates us making us a new person. However, God’s desire is for the waters of life to continually spring up in us, and overflow (John 7:38). The same Spirit who comes within us bringing regeneration is the same Spirit that fills us and overflows as Jesus baptizes us in His Spirit. The believer after receiving Christ should continue to drink of the waters of life.

Bread

    • Represents Fellowship with Christ

      1. Believing him and following him

      2. John 6:48  I am that bread of life

      3. John 6:56-58 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. 57As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. 58This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.

Christ’s body was broken for us. He has given us His life. When Jesus calls us to eat his flesh and drink his blood, he is speaking of believing on him and living our life based on Him, and what he has done. Eating the bread of life represents continual fellowship and abiding with Christ. Once we trust and fellowship with HIm, if we abide in Him we bear much fruit.

Milk

Learning the Basics of the Christian Faith

1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

1 Corinthians 3:2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.

Hebrews 5:13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
Milk represents the initial teachings of Christ that all believers should learn and be familiar with. New believers and babe in Christ needs to get into the Word to have a general overview of God’s character, and the basic expectations of the Christian faith. The Bible tells us some of the basic doctrines of the Christian faith in Hebrews 6:1-2.

    • The Basics Fundamentals include: (Hebrews 6:1-2).

      • Repentance from Sin

      • Faith in God

      • Baptisms

      • Laying on of Hands - for the sick, for impartation, for ordination, for Holy Ghost Baptism and Gifts of the Spirit

      • Resurrection from the Dead

      • Eternal Judgment

Hebrews 6:1-2 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, 2Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. 3And this will we do, if God permit.

Meat - means solid food

    1. Experience in Applying the Word - this is where you begin to chew. You are putting the word in practice

    2. Meat - Understanding God’s mandate, Purpose, Calling

    3. Meat - Understanding Mysteries of the kingdom (Hebrews 5:10-12)

    4. Meat - Understanding the Power of God.

    5. Meat - Understanding the differences between good and evil (Mark 8:14-21)

Hebrews 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

John 4:34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

Before Christ’s death and resurrection he had already preached, taught, or demonstrated repentance, faith toward God, baptism, laying on of hands, resurrection,  and eternal judgment

After His Resurrection, he taught or unveiled:

  • Prophetic Insight of the Old Testament

  • Mystery of the Gospel

  • Mandate of the Church

  • Power of God Upon the Church

    1. Represents the Prophetic Call

    2. Represents the joy of being a partner with God

    3. Represents the Prophetic Message

    4. Represents the Burden to Prophesy

    5. Represents the agony of the prophetic Message

Don’t run from the prophetic call. Arise and eat

Ezekiel 3:1-2 Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel. 2So I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat that roll.

Revelation 10:9-11 And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey. 10And I took the little book out of the angel's hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter. 11And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.

The Bitterness of it represents

  1. The Intensity of the Message

  2. The Urgency of the Message

Every believer should move forward in receiving the full diet of spiritual nourishment, from the waters of life to the roll of prophecy. Every believer should grow from initial salvation to being a vessel of God’s voice to the world.
