Escape the Sex Trap
Apply God’s Word
Proverbs 6:23-24 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: 24To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.
Reading, meditating on, and applying God’s word is a pre-requisite for overcoming the sex trap. We must receive and live by what the word of God states concerning sexual activity and the use of the body. Pre-marital sex, adultery, homosexual practice, pornography, ungodly sexual fantasies, etc are sins, and should be avoided by every believer. In fact, the Bible teaches us to run from them.
I Thessalonians 4:3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality; (NASB)
Avoid Hearing Sensual Things
Proverbs 6:24 24To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.
Doorways to sexual temptation and sin include sight, hearing, and touch. The wise Christian, by depending on the Holy Spirit, should take precautions in these areas. In hearing, be diligent about the things that you hear in conversations, and through any form of media. Intimate words, and frequent physical praise and admiration from or to someone you are attracted to can open doors to sin. Music, and other forms of entertainment that contain sexual content can lead the mind to think on the wrong things, and elicit sensual feelings.
Guard Your Heart
Proverbs 6:25 Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.
Watching what you hear and see is a way of guarding your heart against sin. Do you see something tempting? Don’t look a second time. Look away, and let not lust fester in your heart. Keep from evil’s very appearance.
Abstain from the appearance of evil
Watch what you Stare at
Be careful how you give your time to another you are attracted to.
Stay Far from Tempting Situations
Proverbs 7:5-8 That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words. 6For at the window of my house I looked through my casement,7And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding, 8Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,
The current vice president, Mike Pence, was criticized for holding to a certain standard when interacting with the opposite sex. He refuses to dine alone with a female other than his wife, so as to avoid both the appearance and temptation for any form of impropriety. Although in our current culture, men are being accused of sexual misconduct that took place years in the past, yet he was still criticized for being careful in this area. However, keeping far from situations that can create a fertile atmosphere for lustful temptation is a wise step for every Christian to take.
Have No Tolerance Toward Sexual Deviancy
Sexual Immorality Must Not Be Treated Lightly
Numbers 25:6-8 And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. 7And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand; 8And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.
Similar to how Phinehas stopped the plague by using a javelin to kill one of the Isrealites involved in sexual sin, we should take the sword of God’s word and pierce through the darkness engrossing society in sexual immorality. The church can put a stop to some of the consequences of sexual idolatry that is spreading by boldly injecting the word of God.
